ImageStream Announces 802.11b Support at WISPCON III
ImageStream announced that it will soon be shipping 802.11b support for its Industrial Series routers. The company showed its Rebel Router with wireless support during the WISPCON III conference and expo in Chicago March 24th through 26th. ImageStream officials say the 802.11b wireless support will be fully tested and ready to ship within 30 days of the WISPCON III conference.
At today's WISPCON press conference, ImageStream President J.C. Utter explained that the company is preparing to deliver 802.11b support to address customer demand for primary conectivity in customer premise applications, and for backup connectivity in mission critical WAN and Internet applications.
ImageStream has supplied mid-range routers to wireless ISPs for several years. According to Utter, the exceptional growth in the wireless networking market has driven ImageStream to support wireless connectivity directly in the router.
Utter commented, "ImageStream is a market-driven company, and we always strive to support the needs of our customers. Right now, the market is demanding support for wireless applications." Utter continued, "After our involvement in WISPCON II last fall, it became very clear that we could do more for wireless service providers. This is the first installment on that promise."
Utter alluded to at least two additional partnerships that ImageStream plans to pursue that would allow wireless service providers to deploy wireless solutions based on ImageStream's router platform. Utter said that the ability to deploy Linux networking software on ImageStream's proven router platform is a powerful capability that has convinced many wireless ISPs to adopt ImageStream routers for their networks.
