ImageStream Ships Industry's Lowest Cost OC12 Router
ImageStream is now shipping its next generation Enterprise Router. The new router integrates premium features including dual XEON® processors, dual 64-bit PCI buses, dual input redundant power supplies, dual 10/100/1000 ethernet ports, and hot-swap chassis cooling fans. At a retail price of less than $13 thousand USD, the new Enterprise Router is also the industry's lowest cost solution for SONET OC12 and SDH STM4 routing applications.
The new Enterprise Router's dual XEON CPUs can process 8 billion instructions per second (BIPS). Its dual PCI buses support an aggregate throughput of up to 10 Gbps. These performance specifications are more than double the processor performance and bus bandwidth of previous designs, which make the new Enterprise Router one of the fastest routers ever produced.
In addition to routing OC12/STM4 circuits at wire speed, the new Enterprise Router supports ImageStream's entire line of Industrial Series network cards. The new router can deliver wire-speed performance with multiple OC3/STM1, DS3/E3, T1/E1, and ethernet connections. The scalability and performance of the new Enterprise Router make it an ideal solution for core routing applications in large carrier, ISP, and enterprise networks.
ImageStream President J.C. Utter said that he expects the new Enterprise Router to open a significant number of opportunities for the company. Utter said, "This is the first ImageStream router that can replace the Cisco 7600 and 12000 in a significant range of applications." Utter continued, "The new Enterprise Router is probably the fastest router ever made that does not rely on dedicated interface processors for each port."
Since its inception, ImageStream has achieved a number of firsts including the industry's lowest cost DS3 and OC3 routers, the Rebel and the Gateway. These commercial routers were the first to prove ImageStream's vision of using commodity off-the-shelf hardware to produce routers that offer industry-leading price and performance. With the new Enterprise Router, ImageStream has now extended the reach of its price leadership to include OC12 applications.
