ImageStream Ships Industry's Lowest Cost ATM OC3 Router
ImageStream Internet Solutions is shipping its new Gateway Router. According to company officials, the new Gateway is the lowest cost router on the market that supports ATM OC3 applications. When purchased with ImageStream's new single-port OC3 card and gigabit ethernet NIC, the Gateway can deliver wire-speed performance specifications at a list price of less than $6,000 for multimode fiber, and less than $8,500 for single mode fiber.
The new Gateway includes a single processor with high-performance memory, flash storage, 10/100 ethernet, and 12 expansion slots on a 1 Gbps backplane. The Gateway runs the ImageStream Linux router distribution, which features the Inetics driver component architecture.
In addition to its standard features, the Gateway offers a wide range of performance and connectivity options including a new 4 Gbps backplane. It also supports options for DC power, redundant AC or DC power, and dual input redundant AC power. The Gateway accepts ImageStream's Industrial Series WAN cards including 1, 2, 4 and 8 port T1, E1 and synchronous serial cards, 1 and 2 port DS3, E3 and HSSI cards, and 1 port ATM DS3 and OC3 cards.
According to ImageStream President, J.C. Utter, the new entry point for ATM OC3 routers will allow many ISPs to offer Internet bandwidth at lower prices. At a press conference announcing the new product release, Utter commented, "Our latest development for the new Gateway Router was driven by the work we have done for AT&T and the Department of Defense." Utter said, "We are proud to extend ImageStream's price leadership from the Rebel which is the industry's lowest cost DS3 and E3 router, to the new Gateway which is now the industry's lowest cost ATM OC3 router."
Utter said that a number of wireless ISPs and defense agencies are planning to deploy the new Gateway, and several telcos are also looking at the new OC3 chassis. Utter added, "Many ISPs will choose ImageStream because they can buy two routers and put a spare on the shelf for less than the price they would pay for any other OC3 router."
