ImageStream Ships Extended Temperature R1 Router

At the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo today, ImageStream announced that it is shipping its new R1 router. The new R1 is designed to support extended temperature operation in outdoor installations and other demanding environments.

The new R1 includes a small, heavy duty steel chassis that supports rackmount, wall-mount, and set-top installation. It provides a fanless VIA C3 processor, 128 MB of high-performance memory, flash storage, onboard 10/100 ethernet, and two expansion slots for add-on cards. The expansion slots support up to eight additional 10/100 ethernet ports, or up to four T1/E1/J1 ports. Additional options include 56K dial-up, ISDN, ADSL, and wireless interfaces, as well as DC power, and a CPU upgrade that allows the new R1 to route a DS3 or E3 at wire speed.

The R1 features ImageStream’s Inetics Driver Component Architecture (IDCA) and ImageStream Linux router distribution that are used in ImageStream’s top-of-the-line core routers. Among its many features, ImageStream Linux supports the most popular service provider requirements, including line bonding with CEF, MLPPP, MLFR, and IMA; QoS and bandwidth limiting; 1:1 and 1:many NAT; packet filtering and port forwarding; IPsec, CIPE, and SSL VPNs; GRE and IPIP tunnels; SNMP and NetFlow monitoring; TACACS+ and remote RADIUS; VRRP, VLAN tagging, and dynamic routing; PPPoE and PPPoA; concurrent bridging and routing, secure shell (ssh) v.2, IPv6, and more.

According to ImageStream Product Manager Doug Hass, the R1 is one of the only routers on the market that is designed for outdoor installation. Hass commented, "Wireless ISPs often need to install routers at tower sites and other outdoor locations. The R1’s support for extended temperature operation and T1/E1 line bonding make it an ideal router for deploying broadband services."

The new R1 includes 24/7 technical support for the first year, free software upgrades for life, and an exclusive performance guarantee that assures the R1 will route up to four T1/E1/J1 ports at wire speed (see ImageStream’s wire-speed specifications Web site for details). At a base retail price of $1,599, or $1,999 with the DS3/E3 performance option, the new R1 is a powerful solution for wireless ISPs and military networks that require extended temperature operation.
