Samurai Express
The Samurai Express is a high-performance colocation and entry-level core router that provides wire-speed performance with leased telco and ethernet connections at speeds up to one gigabit. The system hardware is a 2U 19-inch rackmount chassis with locking access door, removable processor card, high-performance memory, flash storage, PCI Express backplane, and onboard dual 10/100/1000 ethernet ports.
The Samurai Express provides two PCI and two PCI Express slots for expansion. The system is also available as the PCI-only Samurai which provides four PCI expansion slots. The PCI and PCI Express slots accept ImageStream LAN, WAN and voice interface cards that support a wide range of network applications. With these add-on cards, the Samurai Express can connect IP data networks using T1/E1, DS3/E3, OC3/STM1, OC12/STM4, 10 Mb to 10 Gb ethernet, basic rate ISDN (BRI), and 56 K dial-up circuits. Voice cards include support for analog FXO/FXS, basic rate ISDN (BRI), and T1/E1 Primary Rate ISDN (PRI).

The Samurai Express takes advantage of the ImageStream Linux router distribution, which provides support for NAT firewall security, IPsec and SSL virtual private networks (VPNs), quality of service (QoS), VLAN tagging, VoIP Gateway, SoftPBX, Lawful Intercept (including CALEA), VRRP for LAN failover, dynamic routing, packet filtering, bridging, peer-to-peer traffic control, Azotel SIMPLer OSS support and more. ImageStream Linux also includes the Inetics platform, which provides a tightly integrated Linux kernel, management software, and the Inetics Driver Component Architecture (IDCA). IDCA supports WAN protocols including PPP, Cisco HDLC, frame relay, ATM, and SoftCell ATM. Inetics also makes it easy to troubleshoot LAN and WAN connections by providing real-time port status and performance monitoring.
The Samurai Express router can be used in a wide range of applications from the core to the edge. It is ideal for high-performance network applications that require wire-speed performance with redundant power. The Samurai Express works in most applications where the Cisco 1013, 3945 and 7206 routers are deployed, and it is commonly used in multihomed networks that require high-speed ethernet or SONET/SDH connectivity. The Samurai Express is ideal for service provider and telco core and edge applications, enterprise core and Internet gateway applications, and other networks where a high level of performance, scalability, and redundancy is required.
